Frost by Numbers: How to Make Frosting Colors

Food network magazine published this guide in their May 2012 issue for tinting frosting using a standard box of liquid red, blue, green, and yellow food coloring, but is also available online on their website. It provides the exact amount of drops of food coloring needed to create the perfect shade of almost any color. The guide works best using a pure white frosting to get the ideal shade and although they’ve used liquid food coloring I think it is best to use gel food coloring if you want more vibrant and rich colors.
